As the the ongoing Ramadan entered the 5th day, just as Christians all over the world commence their Lenten Season today, the Rector, Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Mr. Kehinde Adeyemi Alabi, has charged both Muslims and Christians in the polytechnic community to be more prayerful.
Mr Alabi in a Statement personally signed by him urged members of the polytechnic community to use this holy season to pray for peace in Osun State and the country at large. According to him ” I call on all members of the polytechnic community to re-dedicate their lives to their creator at this holy season of Ramadan and Lenten season.
“Let us use this period to pray for absolute peace and tranquility in Osun, good health, love, unity, progress and prosperity in our community.
“This period is a period of abstinence from sins, forgiveness of one another, renewal of our faith and alms giving. We should re-dedicate our selves and shun all forms of iniquities”, the Rector charged.
Osun State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Dipo Eluwole has reiterated the commitment of the State to provision of quality education for students in the State. The Commissioner who spoke through the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Alhaji Adekilekun Kehinde Jimoh at the distribution of books to the Primary School and Junior Secondary School Students in Obokun Local Government on Monday said the State Government has outlined series of programmes that would enhance quality education in the state. He noted that training and re-training of teachers, and creation of enabling environment for learning and teaching in the schools are part of what has given education a boost in the the state.
The Commissioner commended the Chairperson of the Local Government Education Authority in the Local Government, Honourable Oluwatoyin Babaniyi, facilitated donation of thousands of text books on various subjects in science, technology, vocational development, mathematics, English Language and Moral Education by Philipanna Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation based in Lagos to students in the local Government.
Also speaking at the event, held at the Secretariat of the LGEA in Ibokun, the State Commissioner for Environment, Hon Mayowa Adejorin lauded the efforts of the LGEA chairperson and other members of the board for complementing the efforts of the state government in educational services in the local government. He noted that the people of Obokun Local government gives education its deserved priority in their daily lives. He charged parents and teachers present at the programme to make judicious use of the books. While presenting her welcome address, Honourable Oluwatoyin Babaniyi said she was concerned with the poor reading culture among the youths in the recent time and the need to stock the schools with current text books that could improve the educational lives of the pupils.
According to her “as these books will be distributed here today, dear Parents and Teachers here present, I want to charge you to ensure that the books are used for the purpose it is meant for. Ensure that the pupils make use of the books for their studies.
“Distinguished Guests, may I use this medium to berate the poor reading culture in our society in the recent time. This is caused by the menace of Cyber Crimes, abnormal use of the internet, the Smart Phones, Movies, Social Media and hunt for economic survival by the parents. Parents do not have time for their wards any longer to monitor them and give them informal education, this has hampered the reading culture in Nigerian Schools”, she stated Babaniyi commended the efforts of the State Governor, Senator Ademola Nurudee Jackson Adeleke for series of development that has taken place in education sector in the council area.
Babaniyi mentioned the following as part of the achievements in the council areas in the last two years; “(1) N.U.D Primary, Ibokun. School :Renovation of two blocks with three class rooms each equipped with pupils chairs and desk. (2) N.U.D Primary School Otan Ile: Renovation of Three blocks with 3 class rooms each furnished with teachers and learners furniture. 3) Sets of Students furniture was distributed to Esa – Oke Grammar School and Esa -Odo Grammar School last term (20 each.) 4)Renovation of a block of 3 class rooms is on going at Baptist High School, Ada- Owode. 5) Also another renovation at St Joseph RCM Grammar School Esa Oke. (6) Renovation of block of Classrooms at L.A.11 Primary School, Esa-Oke. (7):Renovation of Block of Classrooms at Methodist Primary School, Iregun.

Apart from the physical infrastructure, members of my Board pay regular visits to our schools in the Local Government for Official Inspections of Teaching activities in the schools”, she explained. Honourable Babaniyi also delivered the message the state SUBEB chairman, Honourable Ibukun Fadipe who was unable to attend the programme due to another official assignment.
Also speaking at the event, the Chairman, Teaching Service Commission, Comrade Temitope Muspha Adeyemi, who was represented by Dr. Tope Abiola enjoined the teachers not just to store the books in the school, but ensure effective use of the books by the students to enhance their reading ability.
Other dignitaries present at the event included; the People’s Democratic Party Chairman in the council area, Prince Adelani Owoeye, other members of the LGEA Board, representative of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, Comrade Oginni, Obokun NUT Chairperson Mrs Jabar, Mr Faluro AOPSHON Chairman who represented the Special Adviser to the Governor on Home Grown School Feeding, Hon Oluwaseyi Ayodele, Local Inspector of Education, a Leader of the PDP in the local government, Honourable Tope Ladesuyi, all Principals and Primary Head Teachers in the Local Government, students and parents. The donors of the books, Philipanna Foundation Lagos was represented by Mrs Hameedat Durodoye.
Contrary to nefarious news being peddled around on the social media that Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State sacked some staffers of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, authorities of the Polytechnic have declared that “no member of staff of the Polytechnic was sacked by the State Government”.
The Registrar of the Institution, Prince Abiodun Oloyede in a statement made available to the public said “we are only reviewing the appointment of our Contract Staff. It is a normal thing to assess and evaluate the performances of Contract Workers to give room for further efficiency in their performance at work. It is an evaluation and assessment exercise, but not an arbitrary disengagement of the Part-Time Staffers.
“They have been given a month notice already, which was already stated in their letter of appointment initially.
“It should also be noted that interested members among the Contract Staffers who are still willing to continue their service should re-apply through their Heads of Department”, the statement noted. Also, Chairman, Governing Council of the Institution, Honourable Diran Ayanbeku while commenting on a fictitious report on a Facebook Account said “the reviews of the Contract Staff appointment should not be politicised by the All Progressives Party (APC) cynics, saying”it was a usual exercise during the 12 years reign of the APC in the State.”
He averred that “a single staff was not given a permanent appointment by the APC led- government in the state, despite the fact that a good number of the staffers retired or disengaged voluntarily in the polytechnic sector.
“Therefore, I call on members of the public to ignore the fictional stories that were published to tarnish the image of the governor. The stories are mere junks that were scripted to misinform members of the public”, Ayanbeku said.
Authorities of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) have opened the Portal for admission for prospective applicants to run degree programmes in the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.
It would be recalled that the National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the running of the Bachelor of Science programmes in the Osun State Polytechnic Iree, following Resource Inspection and Accreditation of the courses by the NUC.
In the light of this, the university has started admission of students for 2024/2025 academic session for the 10 courses to be run in the campus of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree.
A correspondence signed by Alhaji Abubakar Girei, the Director of Academic Planning of the University and addressed to the Rector of Osun State Polytechnic Iree states that “The Vice Chancellor is pleased to recall that in view of the resource verification visit carried out by panels of experts to some proposed academic programmes in Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Osun State, `in affiliation with University of Ilorin, Kwara State with a view to assessing the human and material resources available for the establishment, I am directed to inform the Rector that the Ag. Executive Secretary has considered and approved the establishment of the Full-Time mode of the following undergraduate programmes to be run in the Main Campus of the Polytechnic with effect from 2024/2025 academic session.
Ten courses have been duly accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in the Faculties of Science, Engineering, Information and Communication Technology, Management Studies and Financial Studies.”
The degree courses to be run in the Polytechnic include; Mathematics, Microbiology, Mass Communication, Computer Science, Food Technology, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business Administration and Accounting.
The Registrar of the Polytechnic, Mr Abiodun Oyedele Oloyede calls on interested applicants who sat for the 2024 Post UTME and scored 180 and above to change their choice of Institution on the JAMB Portal to the Osun State Polytechnic Irene, Unilorin Degree programme and apply for anyone of the degree courses listed above.

The Rector Osun State Polytechnic Iree, Comrade Kehinde Adeyemi Alabi has felicitated Christians, especially members of the Polytechnic community, charging them to emulate Christ in their daily acts.
Mr Alabi in a statement he personally signed noted that Christmas is a celebration of love, peace and unity, which according to him heralds the birth of Jesus Christ. “The circumstances that sorrounded the birth of Christ the King of the Universe indicates, peace, love, endurance and hope. These are features the Christians celebrate in the festival of Christmas. I therefore urge my Christian friends , especially the staffers of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree to imbibe these spirits in their day-to-day activities. *As we gather with family and friends during this festive period, I urge everyone to pause and reflect on the profound lessons associated with the birth of Christ. Let us strive to emulate His virtues by spreading kindness, fostering unity, and showing love to one another, irrespective of differences in religion, ethnicity, or social status. “Love yourself, be hopeful and focussed. Let peace, love and unity be your watchwords. “I pray that the Lord in His infinite mercy continues to shield us and grant us the inherent joy of Christmas in our daily lives”, the Rector said.
Mr.Alabi also urged the Christians to use this period to pray for the continued peace and progress in the Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke’s government in Osun State, saying the state has witnessed unprecedented achievements in the last two years.
“It is pertinent that we use this spiritual season to pray for Governor Adeleke’s led-government in Osun State in his bid to paddle the canoe of the state to a safe harbour. We have witnessed uncommon transformation in the state since he came on board”, Alabi noted.
The management of Nnamdi Azikwe University, Awka has started running degre programmes in the Osun State Polytechnic Iree.
Seven courses have been duly accredited in the Faculty of Vocational and Technical Education of the Institution. The courses include; B.Sc (Ed) Computer Science, B. Tech(Ed) Electrical/Electronics Technology B. Tech(Ed) Automobile Technology, B. Tech(Ed) Woodwork Technology, B.Sc (Ed) Business Education, B.Sc (Ed) Integrated Science and B.Sc (Ed) Mathematics.

Ms Babaniyi Oluwatoyin (MCP), an indigene of Imesi-Ile who is a female political leader in Obokun Local Government and Chairperson, Local Government Education Authority, has welcomed the State Governor, His Excellency, Senator Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke to Imesi-Ile.
Ms Babaniyi said the flag-off of the Statewide Imole Agropreneur Model Project in Obokun Local Government is a welcome development. Babaniyi said the project will boost the Agricultural production in the state and create employment opportunities for Youths in the area. She added that the Governor’s determination to site the project to Imesi-Ile will equally boost the credibility of the Government in Obokun Local Government areas of the state.

Following passionate appeals from many prospective applicants for the Higher National Diploma (HND) programme of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, authorities of Institution have decided to re-open the polytechnic’s portal for sales of admission application form for the Higher National Diploma (HND) programme of the Institution for the 2024/2025 Academic Session.
A statement by Registrar of the polytechnic, Prince Abiodun Oyedele Oloyede states that the decision to re-open the portal was consequent upon several appeals from prospective applicants for the HND programme who could not meet up with the Screening Exercise conducted in October.
Mr Oloyede states that the portal will be opened for the applicants for a week to enable them complete their application form.
The Registrar also called on the initial applicants who missed the Computer Based Test to get ready for the test which will be conducted for them in two weeks time.
He noted that those who missed the initial CBT would be given the grace to participate in the make up test to be conducted at a date to be announced soon.
The Rector, Osun State Polytechnic Iree, Mr Kehinde Adeyemi ALABI, has expressed gratitude to the entire polytechnic community, friends, family members admirers and all those who showered encomiums on him as he added another year to his age yesterday.
Mr. Alabi in a statement, he personally authored said: “I am overwhelmed by the series of inspirational messages and heart-touching compliments that I received from my colleagues and other well-wishers yesterday on the occasion of my birthday anniversary. I was thrilled and motivated. The words were spiritual tonics that animated my spirit.
“The day was a day of self assessment and review, with an envisioned instinct to do more good in my day to day activities in life. “The words were very stimulating, loving and dearing. I am indeed grateful for the show of love and prayers.
“In my doggedness to serve God and humanity, I pray that Allah in His infinite Mercy will continue to guide me aright in life. May Songs of praises never cease in our tongues. I thank you all.”
Management of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree has declared that the Computer Based Test (CBT) for applicants into the Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes of the Institution for the 2024/2025 Academic Session will hold between Wednesday 23rd and Friday 25th October, 2024 .
A Statement signed by Registrar of the Institution, Mr. Abiodun Oloyede states that the applicants who had already purchased the Admission Application Form should proceed to the website of the Institution on ospolyportal.com to apply for the CBT with a sum of four thousand five hundred naira only. The Registrar also stated that the Admission Application is still available on its aforementioned website till 12: midnight of 25th October. The statement directed that the applicants should endeavour to register for the CBT screening and print out their screening details including the allocated time and date slated for them individually.
In a related development, the Registrar also disclosed that the Post-UTME Oral Screening for National Diploma (ND) applicants of the Institution holds between Monday 28th October and Friday 1st November, 2024 in the school premises according to the schedule released for the exercise.
The release explained that applicants into the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (FICT); Mass Communication, Computer Science, Office Technology and Management, Library Information Science and Health Information Management will hold on Monday, 28th
Tuesday 29th October is slated for Applicants into the Faculty of Science with courses in Statistics, Science Laboratory Technology, Food Science Technology and Geology.
Students who chose courses in the Faculty of Environmental Studies; Building Technology Quantity Surveying Architectural Technology Estate Management Urban & Regional Planning would also have their screening the same day.
Wednesday 30th is fixed for Applicants into the Faculties of Financial Studies with courses in Accountancy and Banking and Finance. Faculty of Arts and Industrial Design with courses in Arts and Design, Fashion Design and Clothing Technology, while Thursday 31st is slated for the Faculty of Engineering Applicants; Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Agricultural Technology, Agriculture and Bio-Enviromental Engineering, Computer Engineering, Welding and Fabrication, Mechatronics Engineering Technology, Water Resources Engineering Technology and Mechanical Engineering.
Friday 1st November is for applicants who chose courses in the Faculty of Management Studies; Business Administration, Marketing, Procurement and Chain Management and Public Administration. Applicants to the School of Vocational and Technical Education are are also expected to come for the screening on 1st November. The Registrar added that while coming for the screening exercise, Applicants should bring the photocopies of their O’Level results, Print Out of their JAMB Score Slip, Post UTME Registration Slip and two Passport Photographs . Each applicant is expected to come to the Admission Office by 9:00am each day.
