By Namacos Editorial Board (NEB)

The presidential candidate under the Team Bengee in Osun State Polytechnic Iree, Student’s Union Government, Comrade Irinoye Benjamin Oluwatoyin (Bengee) has disclosed he will not be available at the Presidential Debate organised by NEB in about 15 hours to the debate.

This he disclosed via WhatsApp to the NEB Editor In Chief, Oyedibu Enoch through his WhatsApp platform at about 10: 48 pm on Wednesday.

The first notice he tagged #SUGdebate: Bengee will be unavailable, detailed Bengee would not be available on November 4th, 2021 of the debate with no “genuine reasons.”

Recalled the debate had earlier slated for 10 am on the day. Around 6 pm on Wednesday NAMACOS Editorial Board announced change of time of the Debate due to the scheduled screening exercise for the yet to be admitted aspirants of the institution.

NEB had notified that the debate would start by 1 pm unfailingly due to the screening activities.

Reacting to the development Bengee’s notice of his intended absence has sparked series of reactions by students and non students.

The notice reads: with a deep sense of humour and respect, I salute the doggedness and diplomacy of the NAMACOS Editorial Board in organising a well-packaged programme designed as a presidential debate towards the upcoming SUG Election.

Due to a change in the time of the Programme by the organizers and other factors, I will like to inform the general public about my unavailability for the debate programme scheduled to hold tomorrow Thursday 4th of November, 2021.

With the same time fixed, I won’t be by any means chanced to attend the debate as am (I am) having many duties to perform in fostering the development and enhancing the success of this movement.

“I sincerely apologise to the public for any inconveniences this my decision might cause.

“I still remain dedicated to actualise our dreamed citadel of learning.”

Meanwhile, privately at exactly 11: 47 pm Bengee added to the notice sent to the NEB Editor In Chief that he will not be able to make it down to the programme because he “already had tomorrow planned, and” he “has an Important event outside town,” the notice quoted.

Moreover, since the inception of the notice of his unavailability to the general public and the members of the press, several reactions have sparked many dispositions of the general public at the sudden declaration of his unavailability.

A past student of Osun State Polytechnic Iree, who intended to attend the Presidential Debate tomorrow said As expected! This is very funny. This is how you achieved a dreamed whatever by avoiding a debate because of your campaign and whatever is bigger than engaging those that will vote for you. It is funny.”

Hassan Kasali said that it is glaring that he has nothing for the students. He avoids just a debate because of an important assignment not mentioned to the students. Is he saying that assignment is more important than the debate?

“First not mentioning the assignment shows he is unaccountable and he will be. Second, avoiding the debate because of the unmentioned important assignment now trying to lurk underneath of the NAMACOS Editorial Board changing of time is further proof to his cowardice that he is acting the script of his unseen fathers.”

One of his allies as well said, personally he knows the Presidential debate can not hold.

He said “No matter how many times they postponed it, it will be like that. The fact is the team don’t have interest in the program.

“The release was even more early. It supposed to be release an hour prior to the program” he added.

He said if it were to be him, he will not not give any notice of not coming.

The presidential debate which is one of the most sacred event during the electioneering period in the institution is yearly organised by the NEB to allow top contenders share their views, opinions, plans and answer questions from the students who will like to know, test and measure their leadership capacity to transform the Students’ Union.
